The Yardsale

In homage to such classic urban films as “Friday” and “Born in East L.A.”, director Frank Nuñez and writer John Fuentes, have created a hysterical world where only an alien abducted grandma, an overly friendly priest, and a penis whisperer can all tangle up in the crazy life of Hector Cruz, in this ridiculously funny romantic comedy called “The Yardsale”.

Hector Cruz (Demetrius Navarro), a down on his luck sap with the lack of testicular fortitude, is on the verge of re-proposing to his gold digging fiancée, Iris (Andrea Jimenez), after not getting it right the first time. But standing in his way of matrimonial bliss is Iris’ ex boyfriend, Chuy (Jon Huertas), a dim witted thug with a speech impediment, who will stop at nothing to foil Hector’s relationship. Bigger problems arise when Hector realizes that he has accidentally lost Iris’ re-engagement ring.

The frantic hunt begins. Hector enlists his best friend, Peanut (Aris Alvarado), a 322 pound virgin, in his quest for the ring. The dilemma thickens when Carmen (Erlinda Orozco), Hector’s childhood friend who left to college, returns to the neighborhood, only to join the duo, knowing that Iris would not approve. After failed desperate attempts to remedy the situation, despair finally rears its head. Hector suggests a yard sale on a Tuesday afternoon in order to raise money.

But the yard sale only opens up more doors for more problems as Hector struggles to navigate through them. A romantic complication unfolds as hidden feelings between Hector and Carmen unfurl. Though they both bottle up their affections, Iris senses something. This romantic triangle escalates even more when Chuy and his henchmen unleash this master plan to cripple all of Hector’s relationships and disrupt his yard sale fundraiser.

Hector’s feeble resistance only ends in disaster. The urgency of his re-engagement party continues to grow more imperative. Misfortune and immense pressure guide Hector to a climatic crossroad where looters, riots, catfights, and The Lord of the Fingers await.

Meet The Cast of Frank Nunez's "The Yardsale"

Demetrius Navarro - (Hector) made his film debut in “Friday” starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker. This segued into the motion picture “187” with Samuel L. Jackson. Opportunity opened up for Navarro with guest-starring roles on prime time television series such as “The OC”, “NYPD Blues”, and “CSI Miami”. Then Navarro landed the role of Paramedic Morales in NBC’s “ER”, which earned him an ALMA nomination for best supporting actor. Within a year, he was dividing his time with “ER” and Sony/Tri Star award winning sitcom “Los Beltran”. Though television dominates most of Navarro’s time, he still remains active in film during hiatus, assuming leading roles in “Knight Club” starring Lou Diamond Phillips and the upcoming feature “Purple Heart” with William Sadler. “The Yardsale” will mark his first lead in a comedy motion picture.

Erlinda Orozco - (Carmen) is an actress/singer from the Inland Empire in California who began stirring up the entertainment industry in the crazy comedy “PartyAnimalz” as Maria the Virgin. The elder of five siblings, Erlinda has used that strength and discipline in her acting and it shows in her turn as Danielle Pinero in the tragic film “Vengeance”. Orozco also stars in “Shackles” produced by Rob Cowan and casted by Ronnie Yeskel, who casted “Reservoir Dogs” and “Pulp Fiction”. Orozco has another feature film in the wings called “Platinum Illusions” a drama about the struggles in the music industry. But it’s in “The Yardsale” where Orozco shows off her comedic talents, a departure from her usual movie selections. Then in 2006, Orozco completed the intense thriller “Lady Killer”. Orozco can also be found in circulating magazines such as Rolling Stone, Complex, and Premiere. When Orozco is not busy with her films or music, she is working very hard in commercial ads for major brands such as McDonalds and Coca Cola. With her career on the rise, it’s only a matter of time before Erlinda Orozco becomes a household name.

Jon Huertas - (Chuy) most recently starred as the lead character Victor Hernandez in Warner Bros’ “Believers” for Director Dan Myrick (Blair Witch Project). In April, he travels to Morocco to film “The Objective” for Myrick. Last year he co-produced and starred in “the Insatiable” with Sean Patrick Flanery and Michael Biehn. Huertas has also starred opposite Gina Gershon in the psychological thriller “Borderline” and opposite Esai Morales in “The Elian Gonzalez Story”. Huertas’ impressive resume is the result of his remarkable range of talent which is evident in his turn as Evan in MTV’s “Undressed” where Huertas plays an openly gay college student and also in Alfonso Arau’s “Picking Up The Pieces” with Woody Allen, Sharon Stone and David Schwimmer. In the comedy “The Yardsale” Huertas will make your side split as the dim-witted villain Chuy. Huertas has also co-starred with Oscar winner Halle Berry in two Warner Bros’ films, “Executive Decision”, Kurt Russell and “Why Do Fools Fall In Love”, directed by Gregory Nava. But it was the UPN’S hit show “Moesha” and ABC’s comedy “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” that earned Huertas international public attention. He’s currently writing and developing projects through his production company Soldier Stories Entertainment.

Roberto Sanchez - (Mr. Sancho) was born in Havana, Cuba and raised in Miami, Florida. After serving ten yeas in the US Navy, the Desert Storm veteran decided to try his luck as a model and commercial actor. During the next several years, Sanchez performed in over two hundred fashion shows, numerous print ads, and over a dozen commercials. In 2003, director John Singleton who casted Sanchez as a lead in the blockbuster hit “2 Fast 2 Furious” discovered him in Miami. He has also tackled roles in “Desperate Housewives”, “Arrested Development”, “Criminal Minds”, “The District”, and “America’s Most Wanted”. In “The Yardsale”, Sanchez plays Mr. Sancho, a smooth lady’s man with the gift of being a Penis Whisperer. Sanchez has a slate of releases scheduled in the upcoming months with “Strange Wilderness”, American Fusion”, “December Ends”, and “The Sweep”.

Aris Alvarado - (Peanut) acquired his love for acting growing up in the East Village in Manhattan’s Lower East Side where he was the class clown of his Catholic school. A student of NYU, Alvarado was soon recruited by the Shakespearean group The Frog and by the Peach Theatre Company. In 2000, Alvarado headed for Hollywood where he immediately got background work for show such as “Boston Public” Alvarado’s big break came as Caesar, the short order cook on “The Gilmore Girls”. In 2004, Alvarado earned a guest-starring role on CBS’s “Cold Case”.
